At Kehilat Sukkat Shalom, Rosh haShanah and Yom Kippur
go beyond the words in the mahzor*

(the High Holiday prayerbook).

Weaving contemporary interpretations of traditional liturgy from *Kol Haneshamah, published by The Reconstructionist Press along with new readings and music introduced by our lay and guest leaders, we create sacred space for deep reflection for turning our calendars and our hearts from one Jewish year to the next.

Since 2021, Kehilat Sukkat Shalom has proudly welcomed students from the Reconstructionist and Renewal movements to serve as spiritual leaders guiding us through the High Holy Days. Our Rosh haShanah and Yom Kippur prayer services and social gatherings have been enhanced by the presence of these guests who bring new ideas and unique perspectives on contemporary Jewish practice. A few other things to know about celebrating the season with us:

All are welcome. No tickets or membership are required.
However, we ask that you RSVP. When you do, you’ll receive details on where to find us and how to sign-up for our shared meals.

Wide open doors require strong doorposts.
While we don’t sell tickets for our services, contributions are appreciated. We encourage you to give as generously as you are able, knowing you are helping secure sacred space for others who may not be in a place to contribute.
Click here for information on how to give. Checks are also welcome at each service or event.

We don’t care what you wear.
Many of us have memories of dressing to impress folks on the High Holidays at congregations we attended as children. While some like to honor the holidays in this way, we’re open to you coming as you are. We’d rather have you join us in jeans than not at all.

Knowledge of the prayers is not required.
It’s okay if you don’t know the words to every song we sing or are able to read Hebrew. Our leaders are always introducing new songs and readings (many in English and some with no words in any language).
We invite you to learn along with us or just sit back and listen.

Belief in G-d is not required.
KSS members have diverse understandings and relationships with the Divine. We use a range of language to reference The Source of Life and welcome folks to use whatever feels comfortable to them.

Prepare to be transformed.
The high holiday season is all about turning – turning into a new year on the calendar, turning over a new leaf, turning inward to reflect on who we are and what we value, turning to community to remember we are not alone. Whether you join us for a single service or our full schedule of events, we know you’ll feel renewed.
